"We Need to Talk About Doom: An Avengers: Doomsday Catch-Up" with Mark Hibbett
Summary:
Avengers: Doomsday is here at last, starring Robert Downey Jr as Doctor Doom. But who is Doctor Doom? Where does he come from, what does he want, and what is he going to do to the Marvel Cinematic Universe?
In this talk Mark Hibbett, the world's only Doctor of Doctor Doom, will take you through the history of the character so that you're ready to watch the movie or, if you've managed to get a ticket, help you understand what was going on. He'll explain how Doom came to be Marvel's most popular super-villain, why he works differently from conventional villains, how he's managed to save the world - and the entire multiverse - several times without much thanks, and give some idea about what the comics suggest will be coming next. All this, and no spoilers for the film!
Bio:
By day Mark Hibbett is the mild-mannered Head of Research Information Systems at University of the Arts London, but by night he is the world's leading (and only) academic expert on Doctor Doom. He's written a book, multiple academic articles, and a one-man rock opera about transmedia characters, but is probably best known for 'Hey Hey 16K', one of the world's first ever viral videos.
